Tuscany

Having visited Florence with my best friend about 4 years ago, I wanted to spend more of my time in the majestic region of Tuscany. It is of course known for its gorgeous landscapes, delicious wines and the birthplace of the Renaissance, so needless to say, I wanted to soak in as much as possible. I stayed in an Airbnb in a small town named Incisa Val d'Arno. Incisa Val d'Arno ended up being the complete picture of perfection: a quaint Italian countryside town filled with warm people and delicious food. It was a bit outside the city--  about a 15 minute ride on the metro to Florence, but the journey between Incisa and Florence turned out to be one of my favorite parts. It looked out to rolling green hills, wineries, and (what I believe to be) old Tuscan castles.

I had about 3 days in Florence and decided to do a couple tours to explore Tuscany. It's pretty hard to get around that region without a car and I decided to do some guided tours so all my transportation was covered getting around the sites of Tuscany. I ended up booking 2 tours with Italy Tours on a budget.  Among meeting new friends and drinking fabulous wine, we visited the (extremely small) city of Monteriggioni  where some shots of Gladiator were filmed, Siena, San Gimignano (home to the best gelato on the planet!), and many countryside wineries. I had a ton of fun with new friends and the wine was truly spectacular. I also ended up making a spontaneous purchase of a $60 bottle of balsamic vinegar and a bottle of truffle oil, decadent items obviously befitting a backpacker like myself.

DAY 1: ROME TO FLORENCE

DAY 2-3: ITALY ON A BUDGET TOURS

TRAVEL TIPS: FLORENCE

On Easter day, I left Florence and took a 2 hour train ride to Venice, which was my last stop in Italy. My trip to Venice was slightly tinged with sadness. Thus far, Italy had felt like a dream and I never wanted to leave.
